TJ’s Gym Workouts for the Week of 5.29.17

Athletic competition is rarely predictable or in our control. After a fabulous first day of competition at the CrossFit Regionals, things took an unexpected and unwelcomed turn on day two.  Jeff tore his lat, just a few reps into the team’s third workout. He managed to complete the workout, which included bar muscle ups and rowing, for which lats come in super handy.  Jeff is a fighter, and he wanted nothing to do with letting down our team. With Jeff unable to continue, the team was forced to withdraw from the rest of the competition.  Alternate Jesse would have killed it off the bench, but rules clearly state that no subs are permitted. The good news is that we are a resilient bunch surrounded by a resilient and loving community with great perspective. These athletes will find themselves on that floor again, even more formidable and hungry than they are now. Like competition, life doesn’t always go as planned. Surrounding yourself with the right people is critical, because the diversions in the path are a lot more tolerable when you travel them with good souls.  To our community: Thank you for your support of these athletes, thank you for your spirit, and thank you for engaging in the competitive season with enthusiasm and warmth. GO BLUE!

Susan Lionel

Special shout out to Coach Susan, who worked like crazy these past few days, covering classes six days in a row, to help us ensure that all classes were on. With 90% of our coaches at Regionals or on vacation, efforts like Susan’s were critical!  Thanks, also, to Coaches Mika, Nicki, and Deirdra, who also stepped up to cover classes not usually on their plates!  It truly takes a village, and ours is amazing! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

We hope you all had a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend. We thank all of the service men and women in our country fighting for our freedoms and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our benefit. For those of you who joined us for the Luke workout above, honoring a fallen hero, we hope the grind was extra meaningful. Thank you for sharing part of your holiday with us.
