Our Team and TJ’s Gym WOD for Thurs. May 30th

Our Team

Neil, Evan, KC, Bridget, Amy and Anthony.  I can’t imagine that there was a more diverse yet bonded team on the field this past weekend.  Half of this team had prayed for years to the almighty CrossFit Gods that the dream of such a weekend would come true, and the other half prayed that they would not die right there while broadcast on the interwebz.  The humor and affection, the care and friendship, the competitiveness and teamwork that this group showed was completely inspiring.  This entire group was working as a team.  Even if there was something they really didn’t want to do, they shrugged their shoulders and said, “For this team, anything.”  Rope Climbs, Jackie, Squat Cleans, Deadlifts.  You name it, they stepped up.

There were also moments that will stick in my mind and heart forever.  KC gutting out those pullups, Bridget getting the third muscle up, Evan crushing the opening of Event 6, Anthony manhandling the Deadlift/Box Jump, Amy sacrificing herself for DB snatches and getting her first freaking muscle-up ever under time pressure, and Neil risking body parts–some that he was born with and some that he wasn’t–for those Cleans.  Each of these moments brought tears to my eyes, no kidding.  There were nothing but hugs, smiles and support after each and every workout.  You see a lot of stuff behind the scenes at these competitions.  You’re sometimes exposed to a competitive nature that isn’t always peaches and cream.  Teams are there to win and anything less than that is complete and utter failure.  To see six individuals come together and have the time of their lives and to take in all the separate moments and truly enjoy them was something very, very special.  Congratulations are due but not before thanking two other teammates.  First,  Jessica for her undying support of this group.  Her voice could be heard above all others during practices and at the Fairgrounds, constantly cheering, coaching and encouraging.  Also to Brad for bringing his own style of humor to these proceedings and keeping the crew laughing through training as well as through last weekend.

So here is to Team Big Blue 2013.  Your community couldn’t be prouder, and I can’t thank you enough for the joy you gave to me throughout the  weekend.  I will always think back to this past weekend as one of the finest moments in our community’s history.  Cheers to you.

Come on out to Redwood High tomorrow morning at 6am and play with me and the Buckin’ Bronco.  If you’re a mid-morning member, come to Hall Middle School/Piper Park for OutFit at 9:30.  Did you know we have 9:30 outdoor classes there Monday-Friday now?  The Dr. says that a little fresh air and outdoor exercise can do wonders for your noggin as well as your body.
