The NCM Team and TJ’s Gym WOD for Thurs. Jan 24th

This team who helped put on the NorCal Masters 2013 is the greatest.  Jason Bannister spent the last couple of weeks organizing all the gear we have at the gyms that Diablo Fitness Engineering couldn’t supply for us.  He then put together spreadsheets laying out exactly what equipment we would need each day, each heat, for each workout, for each athlete.  Then he spent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday creating the workout floor with his crew.  It would be simply impossible to put this event on without him.  Thank you, Jason.

Jessica Woodall-Massey ran the front desk, making sure vendors and athletes were checked in and all finances were in order.  She did everything from having her mom run $5’s out to the venue from Marin when we ran out, to securing a bullhorn from the San Rafael Radio Shack (thank you Chris Gerner!)  I felt totally comfortable about the front desk knowing that Jess was in charge.  Can’t thank you enough, Jessica.

Lisa Smith was the Volunteer Coordinator who pointed judges and volunteers in the right direction and made sure everyone was in the right place all weekend.  She’s done this job for the CrossFit Games, so I was pretty sure she’d be good at it, and she was.  Thank you, Lisa.

Cory Boyd ran the mini wods like a boss.  He emcee’d and setup judges and ran the clock for all of the second floor workouts.  He ran them on time with some brilliant commentary.  He was the perfect man for the job and is happy to provide his mic skills at any event.  Thank you, Cory.

Joe Ball (not pictured) has been the CrossFit Event godfather for the last few years.  He runs the NorCal Regionals and helps us run our TJ’s Games and NorCal Masters. Andy Boone, Jason B and Joe also have run all of the track events at the CrossFit Games the past couple of years.  For NCM, Joe set up all the heats, workout times, score cards and then ran Saturday’s schedule with perfection even though we had a few hiccups along the way.  His organizational skills are one-of-a-kind.  Thank you, Joe.

Andy Boone was my partner on the floor.  He took over for Joe when Joe needed to leave on a business trip, and he never missed a beat.  Andy provided me with a calming influence and moments of hilarity that helped me remember that this is all for fun.  His briefing of judges for workouts, running of Sunday’s schedule, and dealing with a few calamities along the way helped make this our most successful event ever.  Thank you Andy.

Denise Figone is the woman who spends the days leading up to our events compiling all of the information about the athletes so that on Game Day I look like I know what I’m doing.  She provides me with perfectly organized notecards with all of the athletes’ information, and it’s all organized by heat.  Whenever I turn around, she is there with Advil, coffee, food or beverage, whenever I need it, and she knows when I need it before I do.  Thank you, Denise.

Jen Gauna was our sponsorship/vendor guru this year.  She contacted and secured all of the great vendors we had during this year’s event.  I would be maxing out all of my credit cards and draining my kids’ college fund if it weren’t for the last few months of endless work that she put in to make this event what is was.  She is a perfectionist and is right for the job, no matter what the job is.  She is a most fantastic addition to our all-star team.  Thank you, Jen.

Marcus Filly  deserves much of the credit (blame?) for the NCM workouts.  His programming of events is second to none, and he and I worked closely to ensure that the NCM would test a wide variety of skills, would not favor the specialist, and would find the fittest, most well-rounded athletes.  He sees the entire weekend and balances the capacities and capabilites of all the different ages of athletes.  His concern for composing a fair, well-balanced workout is only outshined by his compassion for the people who compete.  He also ran the scoring for the entire event, making sure ruffled feathers were smoothed.   He calmly explained many times over all of the finer points to amped up athletes with endless questions.  Thank you, Marcus.

And then there is Event Coordinator, Lisa Rendic.  Lisa handled the avalanche that was our registration.  She handled all of the communication with athletes, as well as managing our entire staff and all of their responsibilities.  Lisa tirelessly fretted about T-Shirts, the website, vendor and sponsor satisfaction, scoring and weighting of workouts, the weekend’s schedule,  and the speakers, all the while making sure that I was doing my jobs.  She did all this while training and bringing home the victory in the Masters Division at the OC Throwdown just a WEEK before our event!   I truly can’t thank you enough, Lisa.
