TJ’s Gym WOD for Friday June 24th, 2011

While some of us were drinking beer and painting walls a couple of others were doing things that required more balls and effort.

Here’s Brian O’keefe and Burr Purnell.  In Brian’s words.

I told you we would bring back a picture from Rainier with your logo a blazin’
The only problem is that we were turned around at 12,500 feet due to wind and snow so the picture was not at the summit.  I did not feel too bad, as our guides have summitted 170 times between them and they pretty much ordered us back down the mountain (not to mention one is a former Navy Seal and he pulled the plug).
The interesting news though is that Crossfit is a fabulous training method for mountaineering.  When climbing Disappointment Cleaver you have to ascend 1000 vertical feet by holding a rope in one hand while lunge stepping up 16 inches straight up the mountain… thank god for all those air squats, lunges, and dead lifts!!!  
Anyway, Burr and I took this picture at Muir Base camp at 10,000 feet as a precautionary measure in case something went sideways on summit day.  Good thing we did.  Enjoy!
