WOD for TJ’s Gym/CrossFit San Rafael/CrossFit Corte Madera/CrossFit Novato for Friday, Feb 25th, 2011

Friday is TJ’s Birthday.  He’s been alone all week.  Our girls and I have been visiting my parents in New York.  One would think that this could have been a nice time for TJ to catch up on some much needed sleep and work, and maybe even go out with a buddy for a beer and a burger.  Unfortunately, as luck would have it, TJ got the lovely slapped cheek virus going around, only he got the slapped whole-body version.  The guy does nothing halfway.  He had a little added excitement today when some carpet installers came to install carpet in our converted garage, which had flooded recently, and they accidentally hit a hidden pipe, which sprayed water everywhere and forced a water outage in the house.  A few plumbers later, all seems to be quiet on the Western front.  This was how TJ capped off  his less-than-optimal week “off” from being Daddy.  All this as background to say that the guy could use some extra birthday wishes tomorrow.  Without getting overly sentimental and gushing, I’d like to briefly acknowledge all that TJ does, and has done for years, to give this TJ’s Gym community life.  He is the man behind it all–the man whose drive, determination, personality, hard work, excitement, vision, charm, perseverance, expertise, knowledge, curiosity, openness, kindness, passion, and will to make it happen have made it happen.  Sure, he (we) have had help along the way.  Absolutely, TJ’s Gym is what it is because of ALL of the collective work and energy that each and every one of us, from coaches to athletes to people behind the scenes, put in every day.  But there is also no doubting the fact that none of this could have happened were it not for TJ finding CrossFit and leading us all down a path that has changed so many lives for the better.  I think anyone who knows him well would agree that TJ possesses a rare combination of leadership capacity and public poise on the one hand, and a gentleness, humbleness, lack of self-consciousness, and compassion on the other.  That combination, I believe, is what has made  TJ’s Gym what it is today.  Please join me in thanking TJ for putting his heart and soul into this thing and wish him a very happy birthday. Thanks!  Allison
